ChatGPT ads can now be bought through Magnite and PubMatic
OpenAI has signed Magnite and PubMatic as buying routes for ChatGPT ads, The Information reported on 2 November 2026. Advertisers set budgets, bids and creatives there; OpenAI still decides where ads appear.

OpenAI has signed deals with Magnite and PubMatic that let advertisers buy ChatGPT ad placements through the two ad-tech platforms. The Information first reported the agreements on 2 November 2026, according to The Keyword and TokenPost. An OpenAI spokesperson said the deals make it "easier for advertisers to buy and manage ChatGPT ads through tools they already use."
What advertisers can do through the two platforms
Through either Magnite or PubMatic, advertisers can set spending limits, submit bids and upload their ads, TokenPost reports. OpenAI's own ads system still decides where and how each ad appears. The Keyword notes that this is the same split OpenAI applies to its other partners: they handle budgeting, bidding and creative, OpenAI controls delivery.
At the time of reporting, neither OpenAI, Magnite nor PubMatic had published an announcement, and none had said when the routes open to all buyers or whether pricing through them differs from OpenAI's own Ads Manager, according to The Keyword.
Why two SSPs are a different kind of partner
Magnite and PubMatic are supply-side platforms (SSPs): publishers use them to sell their ad space. Until now, the partners OpenAI listed for buying ChatGPT ads were agencies (Dentsu, Omnicom, Publicis, WPP) and buyer-side technology partners (Adobe, Criteo, Kargo, Pacvue, StackAdapt), The Keyword writes. With these two deals, OpenAI uses sell-side software to put its own inventory in front of more buyers. The Information reported that the deals aim to fill ChatGPT ad space OpenAI has not sold itself, as relayed by The Keyword.
Where ChatGPT ads stand
OpenAI began running ChatGPT ads on 9 February 2026 and opened its self-serve Ads Manager in beta in May, EconoTimes reports. On 21 October, OpenAI said more than 100,000 advertisers had run campaigns and that ads were available in 89 countries, with "buying options" listed among the next steps. The same day, its engineering team wrote that ChatGPT Ads reached $1 billion in annualized revenue run rate less than 200 days after launch.
Ads still appear only on the Free and Go plans; Plus, Pro and Enterprise remain ad-free, and OpenAI says ads are labelled and kept separate from answers (OpenAI).
Why it matters
Programmatic teams that already run spend through Magnite or PubMatic get a route to ChatGPT inventory without opening a new account or going through an agency. For advertisers, ads inside AI assistants are moving from a test budget to a line in the regular media plan. The open questions are price and measurement: none of the companies has said yet whether buying through an SSP costs the same as buying direct.
