Launch Your First In-IDE Campaign with a €200 Credit

What the Idlen welcome credit actually buys, how to claim it, and the exact first campaign to run in a week — targeting, creative, and what to ignore.

Launch Your First In-IDE Campaign with a €200 Credit

Carbon-class networks want a $5k–$10k month. Stack Overflow starts higher. You do not need that to learn whether developers click your product inside an IDE.

Idlen’s welcome offer is €200 of ad credit, not a discount code on a sales deck. You claim it on the welcome offer page. The team turns it on within about 24 hours. No card. No minimum term. If the channel is wrong for you, you stop.

This article is the first campaign to run with that credit — not a second playbook on “why developers.” For channel context, use the in-IDE guide and the first-campaign playbook.

What €200 actually buys

Use the public rates on the advertisers site as a planning sheet, not a promise:

InputPlanning number
Example CPM€35
Credit€200
Impressions~5,700
If CTR is ~3%~170 clicks
Floor to start laterfrom €5/day

That is enough to see if the message + stack pair works. It is not enough to declare a channel dead, or to run five geos and four creatives. One stack. One country if you sell in one market. One ad.

The credit is applied after we validate the form — company, work email, site. It is not an automatic coupon at signup. If you already have an Ads Manager login, still use the welcome-offer form so the credit is attached on purpose.

The only first campaign worth running

Goal: clicks to an ungated page (docs, changelog, or a 60-second trial). Not a “book a demo” form.

Audience: the stack your product actually requires. React is not “JavaScript.” Kubernetes is not “cloud.”

Creative: one headline you would paste in a GitHub issue. Write it in 30 minutes or generate variants from that brief.

Success in week 1: you can answer “did the right people click?” not “did we scale?”

Day 0: claim the credit

  1. Open the offer.
  2. Company, name, work email, site, rough monthly budget (or “exploring”).
  3. Wait for activation — the page says ~24 hours, not five minutes.

While you wait, write the ad. Do not wait for the login email to start the brief.

Day 1: targeting before budget

In Ads Manager, lock targeting before you touch daily spend.

  1. Tech stack — the two or three technologies that must be on the machine for your product to make sense. See targeting.
  2. Geo — the countries you can support in English (or French) this month.
  3. Placement — IDE idle + browser overlay is enough. Do not invent a custom format for test #1.

If you cannot name the stack in one line, you are not targeting. You are hoping.

Day 1, continued: one creative, then live

Upload or paste:

  • Headline with an object and a number
  • Body that makes the number believable
  • CTA that names the next page

If you are still staring at a blank box, run the brief through the ad generator and keep one variant.

Set a daily cap so €200 lasts at least a week (about €25–€30/day). Going live in an afternoon is fine. Emptying the credit in 36 hours is not a test.

Starter shapes in the product (launch / hiring / SaaS) are useful if they match the job. Do not pick “launch” for a hiring campaign.

Days 2–7: what to look at, what to ignore

Look at

  • CTR vs the ~3% site average. Far below: creative or stack mismatch. Far above with no signups: landing page, not the ad.
  • Clicks by stack, if the dashboard splits them. One stack eating all spend is a feature, not a bug.
  • Spend pace. If you burn €80/day, tighten geo or stack.

Ignore

  • Brand lift. You do not have the sample.
  • “View-through conversions.” You do not have the pixel story yet. Add UTMs on the landing URL from day 1 — the site already persists utm_* into Ads Manager signup.
  • A second creative until 5,000 impressions. Changing two things teaches you nothing. Same rule as in the ROI article.

After the credit

Three honest exits:

  1. CTR and clicks look like your ICP — add a card, keep the same ad, widen one dimension (second country or second adjacent library, not both).
  2. Clicks, no activation — fix the landing. Do not buy more traffic.
  3. No clicks — rewrite the headline or narrow the stack. Do not “scale the learning.”

Pricing models (CPM vs CPC) once you pay your own money: CPM, CPC, CPA.

FAQ

How does the €200 credit work?

Form on the welcome-offer page. Credit on the ad account after validation, usually within 24 hours. No card. No lock-in. You run real campaigns with it.

How many impressions is that?

About 5,700 at a €35 CPM. At 3% CTR, about 170 clicks. Creative and targeting move both numbers.

Do I need a card?

Not to spend the welcome credit. You add payment only if you continue after €200.

How fast can I go live?

Minutes after the account is on: campaign, stack, creative. The slow step is the 24-hour credit activation, not creative review.
