ChatGPT Ads vs AI ad networks
A ChatGPT ads alternative for a small budget: what you can buy inside ChatGPT today, and what an AI ad network sells across other chats and apps.

ChatGPT Ads vs AI ad networks
ChatGPT Ads is a card under the answer, sold by OpenAI at ads.openai.com. An AI ad network is a different contract. You pay another company to show an ad while people use ChatGPT, Claude, another chat, or a code editor. That person may be on a paid ChatGPT plan. The ad is not OpenAI's unit, and OpenAI does not set the price.
If the budget is small, that split matters more than the logo. Inside ChatGPT, the published daily budget starts at $25 or €15, and that number is an average, not a cap. On Idlen, a campaign can start at €10, and the first deposit of €50 or more is matched with €50 once: Put in €50, get €100 to spend.
This page is the buy, checked on 3 November 2026. Ads on ChatGPT is about the person using ChatGPT, not the media plan. ChatGPT Ads alternative compares Idlen with OpenAI only. Prices below are the ones those companies publish. If a price is not on the linked page, it is not here.
What you can buy inside ChatGPT
You buy it in Ads Manager. OpenAI's 5 May 2026 post says the self-serve manager is a beta, and that advertisers can also buy through partners. OpenAI still controls delivery. For a small test, the relevant door is self-serve.
Ads in ChatGPT says ads may appear for Free and Go users. Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu accounts will not have ads. Accounts identified as under 18, from what the user says or from OpenAI's age prediction, do not get them. Logged-out experiences can show ads that are appropriate for all audiences. Mature-content ads stay limited to eligible logged-in users. Temporary chats do not show ads. A Free user can switch to an ads-free mode that lowers message limits and removes some tools. That switch is a Free-plan option. It is not a Go option.
The same article says you may see ads below a response, labeled and separate from the answer. One ad unit can contain one image or several. OpenAI is also testing a multi-image unit during image generation. That unit is separate from the image the person asked for, and it goes away when the image is finished. Creating ads says that, from 26 October 2026, Ads Manager offers a single image or a multi-image format in open beta. The multi-image unit is 4 to 6 square images. On that format, "Learn more" is the only call to action, and every image goes to the same URL.
The advertiser basics describe the standard unit as advertiser name, favicon, title, copy, landing page, and an image. You can add context hints on the ad group. They are not exact-match keywords, and they do not guarantee a conversation. Matching uses the current conversation, the landing page, the title, the copy, those hints, and, if the person left personalization on, selected signals from the rest of their ChatGPT use. Advertisers do not receive the chat. They receive aggregated views and clicks. Ads do not change the answer.
Personalized ads are not initially available in the European Economic Area or in Switzerland. Turning personalization off does not remove the ads. The current chat can still be used.
Creating campaigns sets the objectives: Views (CPM), Clicks (CPC), or Conversions. Conversion campaigns bill valid clicks (oCPC) or impressions (oCPM). You do not pay per conversion. The basics page says the auction is second-price and weighted for relevance, and it suggests starting a CPC test at a maximum bid of $3 to $5. That is a suggested bid, not a floor.
The published floor is the daily budget. In the minimum table on that page, USD is $25 and EUR is €15. A daily budget is the average you want over a Sunday-to-Saturday week. Spend on one day can reach twice that amount. Spend over the week can reach seven times it. A €15 daily budget can therefore mean €30 in a day and €105 in a week, if delivery is there. Billing repeats those limits and adds two constraints that matter on a small account. Self-serve card billing is postpay: the card is charged when unpaid spend hits an assigned threshold. The page uses $25 as an example of that threshold, and it says the number is not your campaign budget and not an account cap. Card-billed self-serve accounts cannot set an account-wide daily spending limit. That limit exists for eligible invoice accounts. Pausing a campaign can still leave delivery running for up to 24 hours, and that spend stays billable.
You can also set a campaign-total budget, which is the maximum for the whole campaign. The help center does not publish a separate minimum for that total. Some new self-serve accounts can advertise only in their home country until identity verification is approved and they reach a required spend. The page does not publish that spend figure. Platform targeting can be the Android app, Android web, desktop web, the iOS app, or iOS web. Outside product-feed campaigns, location targeting can include a state, city, market, or postal code where OpenAI supports it.
Ads Manager availability lists France and the United States, among many other countries, as self-service Available. The same page says advertisers in the new European markets can also start through the OpenAI Ads team or a partner. The legal entity that is billed has to be based in a country on the list. A country that is missing, or marked Coming Soon, is not self-serve. Creating an account does not open it early.
ads.openai.com, fetched the same day, describes the signup and does not state a welcome credit. The billing article says that seeing an offer, enrolling, and receiving credit are separate steps. Do not plan a test around a bonus that those pages do not name.
What that budget does not buy
Three limits decide whether ChatGPT Ads is the wrong first test.
The audience is Free and Go, plus the logged-out case above. Someone on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, or Edu does not see the ad. A lot of people who pay for ChatGPT are in that group.
The room is ChatGPT. This contract does not place the ad in Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, or a code editor.
The daily floor is €15 or $25, and it is an average that can double in a day. A card account has no account-wide daily cap on top of that. If the money you can lose this month is about €50, read the next sections before you open Ads Manager.

Idlen
Idlen shows one native ad while someone waits for an AI answer. The ad is not inserted into the answer. The advertisers page lists three places: browser chats in the Chrome and Firefox extension (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Lovable, Bolt, v0, Replit), a VS Code extension that also runs in Cursor and Windsurf, and assistants inside other apps. Those in-app formats are a sponsored recommendation, a contextual link, and a CTA card. The why Idlen page says the audience is anyone using those tools, not only developers.
You pick CPM or CPC and set the bid. The auction is second-price, so the price you pay is not automatically your maximum. Campaigns start at a €10 budget. You can set a daily cap and a frequency cap, and you can pause. Payment is Stripe prepaid. There is no contract. In the editor you can include or exclude technologies in the project. Advertisers do not receive the prompt. What is Idlen says prompts, source code, and project files are not read. Package-manager files are read so the stack can be targeted.
The formats page lists popup, rich toast, sidebar, inline, notification, browser overlay, and browser toast. Video is supported on popup, rich toast, browser overlay, and browser toast.
The offer, in the site's own words: Put in €50, get €100 to spend. The first deposit of €50 or more adds a €50 bonus to the organisation wallet, once. A smaller first deposit does not use it. How to spend that credit is in this guide.
Idlen fits a small budget when you want a card, more than one tool, and people who are not on ChatGPT Free or Go. It does not replace OpenAI's card inside ChatGPT. A person who never installed the extension will not see it.
The other networks
uwait
uwait sells the seconds someone spends waiting on an AI answer. The ad is a card: logo, headline, subtitle, image, button, and a short trust line. The page says it never delays the answer, and the person can dismiss it.
The floor is €2 per 1,000 views. You set a daily budget and a total budget. The highest bid wins. There is no negotiated minimum. A launch offer on that page says a €100 top-up adds €20 of credit, up to €500. Campaigns are reviewed by a person before they run. You pay by card.
Twelve surfaces are named: ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, Mistral, DeepSeek, and Grok, plus VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf, and Antigravity. Targeting can be the topic, the tool, the country, the operating-system family, and the language. Any of them can be left open. The topic is classified on the device. uwait says it does not receive the prompt text or the answer. Country comes from IP, not city and not GPS. Reports are impressions, clicks, and CTR.
Every winning bid is split 50% to the person watching, 30% to the sources the answer cited, and 20% to uwait.
uwait is the closest public euro CPM if you want ChatGPT and other chats in one buy, with a floor under ChatGPT's €15 daily budget. The review means it is not instant. A topic-only campaign reaches fewer people, because the classifier only fires when it is sure. The page says that.
Koah
Koah describes itself as an ad network for AI. Publishers place native ads in chat and agent experiences. Advertisers are matched to the query. The advertise page does not publish a CPM, a CPC, or a minimum. The homepage sends advertisers to a demo. Treat the spend and click figures in the page's dashboard preview as a preview. The same page states its own claims: a 3% average click-through rate at scale, and 100 million or more queries a month.
Koah fits if you want inventory inside other companies' AI apps and you are ready to talk to them. It is a poor first test if you need a public price this afternoon. There is also an Idlen vs Koah page.
Thrad
Thrad calls itself the DSP and SSP for ads in LLM conversations. The homepage says the engine monitors prompts, scores ads against intent, runs a real-time auction, and places the winner inside the AI response.
Pricing is CPM or CPC. CPA is listed as soon, and it is not live. Self-serve has no minimum spend and prices at the going rate. Managed work is quoted. There is no public rate card with a dollar CPM.
Thrad fits a brand that wants a placement inside AI chats and can live without a published CPM. The prompt-monitoring line is worth reading before you brief legal. Idlen vs Thrad is the Idlen comparison.
Gravity
Gravity says you reach people inside AI conversations, agents, and workflows. The advertisers page's "Reach over 1B users" line is Gravity's claim. You set a budget and an objective (conversions, reach, or clicks), add landing pages, and target by location, keyword, or conversation, or let the system optimize. Measurement is a pixel and a conversions API. The page says this works with Shopify, Calendly, Framer, and 30 more tools. The dollar amounts in the campaign mock on that page are a mock. Do not plan a budget from them.
The FAQ says there is no minimum, advertisers can start with any daily budget, and the formats are sponsored blocks and inline hyperlinks alongside AI responses. Supported surfaces are products that generate responses: LLM apps, chatbots, AI search, assistants, and agents.
Gravity fits if you want a network across AI products and a daily budget you pick. It does not publish what €50 buys.
ChatAds
ChatAds is not an auction. It is a chatbot widget for publishers. The widget answers questions on a page and turns product mentions into affiliate links. Publishers keep the commission. ChatAds charges for message volume. The pricing page lists a free plan at 100 messages a day, Pro at $29 a month for 500 messages a day, and Business at $59 a month for 1,500 messages a day. No credit card is required on the free plan.
If you are a brand, you do not buy a CPM here. You show up when a publisher's widget links to you, including through Amazon Associates. That can be useful if you already run affiliate offers. It is not a way to advertise on ChatGPT. Idlen vs ChatAds is written from the publisher side.
Kickbacks, deals.dev, and RuntimeAds
These three sell a line in a coding tool. None of them is a ChatGPT buy. The longer comparison, written from the Kickbacks side, is Best Kickbacks alternatives in 2026.
Kickbacks sells a line of 3 to 60 characters. Two surfaces, two auctions. The VS Code extension runs on Claude Code and Codex. The terminal CLI runs on Claude Code, not Codex. Each block is 1,000 impressions. An impression targets 10 continuous seconds, and measured dwell from 9.5 seconds counts. The form says "Bid from $0.50". The estimated total on the form moves, so this article does not treat the number on screen as a rate card.
deals.dev sells one line of 3 to 60 characters inside a live coding session. An impression is a confirmed five seconds. You set a CPM per 1,000 of those placements. Clicks bill at 50 times the placement rate. The highest CPM serves first. The page says a $1 CPM enters the queue. You can target Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or VS Code, and an operating system. The same CLI can also ride the window title, the message of the day, and the prompt. Developers keep 70% of the spend. On 3 November 2026 the homepage also listed $48,217 paid to developers, 12.4 million impressions, 27 live ads, and a top bid of $6.50 per 1,000. Those counters move.
RuntimeAds puts one line in the spinner of Claude Code and Codex. The homepage says the extension runs in VS Code, Cursor, Antigravity, Windsurf, and other forks, and that it does not read prompts, code, or output. Builders keep half of every dollar. The minimum bid is $5 per 1,000 impressions. The highest bid serves first. The advertisers page describes an impression as about 5 seconds. Targeting is country, region, city, or operating system. Finer geography costs more. The page does not publish that surcharge. No card is required to open the account.
Use one of these when the person you want is waiting on a coding agent, and you want a public CPM under ChatGPT's daily floor. Do not use them as a ChatGPT ads alternative for a consumer product.
Which to pick
Pick the room first. The price is the second question.
Your buyer compares products inside ChatGPT, on Free or Go, and you can fund the daily floor. Buy ChatGPT Ads. Budget at least €15 or $25 a day, and remember that a day can spend twice that and a week seven times it. You will not reach Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, or Edu. You will not reach Claude or an editor with this contract.
The test budget is about €50, and the buyer is not only on ChatGPT Free. Use Idlen. Campaigns start at €10. Put in €50, get €100 on the first deposit of €50 or more. The ad runs during the wait in the browser extension and in the editor. It is not OpenAI's card.
You want ChatGPT plus other chats, on a public euro CPM, with a total budget you set. uwait starts at €2 per 1,000 views. Plan for a human review. The €20 credit is tied to a €100 top-up, not to a €50 one.
You want many AI apps and no published minimum. Thrad self-serve has no minimum, on CPM or CPC. Gravity has no minimum and sells sponsored blocks and inline links. Koah is the demo-led option. None of the three publishes a euro CPM on the pages checked, so €50 does not have a known volume.
You want a line in a coding tool, not a chat card. Kickbacks starts at $0.50 per 1,000. deals.dev starts at $1 and adds a 50× click price. RuntimeAds starts at $5 and adds city targeting.
You sell through affiliate links. ChatAds is a publisher tool. It will not take a media budget the way the others do.
Two of these can run together. A card under a ChatGPT reply does not answer the same brief as a card during the wait, or a line in a coding spinner. For the wider chatbot buy, see advertise in AI chatbots and the AI ad network page.
FAQ
What is a ChatGPT ads alternative?
Any other place you pay to reach people while they use an AI tool. ChatGPT Ads is OpenAI's card, on Free and Go. Idlen, uwait, Koah, Thrad, and Gravity sell other placements, across more than one product. Kickbacks, deals.dev, and RuntimeAds sell a line in coding tools. "Alternative" only helps if it names the room you actually need.
Can I advertise on ChatGPT with a small budget?
Yes, if Ads Manager is open for your business country and you can fund the daily floor: $25 or €15. That figure is a seven-day average. One day can spend twice it, and the week can spend seven times it. A self-serve card account cannot add an account-wide daily cap. A campaign-total budget is a separate control, and OpenAI does not publish a separate minimum for it. If €50 is the whole test, the networks with a €10 campaign budget or a €2 CPM are the ones that publish a smaller door.
Who sees ads in ChatGPT?
Free and Go users, and logged-out experiences with ads that are appropriate for all audiences. Not Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, or Edu. Not accounts OpenAI treats as under 18. Not temporary chats. Some Free users turn ads off and accept lower limits. Details and links are in the ChatGPT section above.
What is an AI ad network?
A company that sells ads in other companies' AI products, or beside them. The phrase covers a card during the wait, a line in a spinner, and a placement inside a model's reply. Those are different buys. ChatGPT Ads is OpenAI selling ChatGPT, which is one product, not a network.
Does the Idlen €50 offer apply to ChatGPT Ads?
No. Put in €50, get €100 is Idlen's first-deposit bonus, once, when the deposit is €50 or more. uwait's €20 credit is its own, on a €100 top-up. OpenAI's ads site and the billing article, as fetched on 3 November 2026, do not state a welcome amount. Seeing an offer is not the same as receiving credit.
Can I run ChatGPT Ads and another network?
Yes. They do not buy the same impression. Use ChatGPT Ads for the labeled card on Free and Go. Use a network if you also need Claude, an editor, or someone on a paid ChatGPT plan. Read ChatGPT Ads alternative for the Idlen-only version of that split, and Best Kickbacks alternatives if the brief is a coding tool.
